Homeless Veterans Essay
Approximately 45% of the homeless served by missions all across America are interpolated of the United States (U.S.) are old soldiers of the United States military. Over 200,000 veterans squandered somewhat of an apportionment part of the year living in the streets. Why is there such an abundant amount? How multitudinously are consisted of the numbers of veterans that are out there on the thoroughfare? By what means did warhorses manage to end up homeless plus out on the boulevards? There are considerable contributing factors as to why shellbacks are homeless.
The statics for what and who veterans are and what they need are, “23% of the homeless population are veterans, 33% of the male homeless population are veterans.” There are “47% served Vietnam-era,17% served post-Vietnam,” This represents that there are more vets that have served in the Vietnam war, that are homeless then soldiers in post-Vietnam wars afterwards. “67% served three or more years,33% were stationed in war zone,25% have used VA homeless services,85% completed high school, or got their General Educational Development (GED), compared to 56% of non-veterans, 89% received an honorable discharge, 79% reside in central cities,16% reside in suburban areas,5% reside in rural areas,76% experience alcohol, drug or mental health problems,46% are white males, compared to 34% of non-veterans,46% are age 45 or older, compared to 20% non-veterans.”
~Homeless Vets, 1970s and 1980s. ~ There are numerous reasonableness as to why vast magnitudes of G.I.’s have found themselves unhoused. Some inconsiderable reasons for why some old salts cannot find employment is, prior to when they served in the military they had no schooling past a high school graduation. Aside from the lack of education some employers decide to form opinions to not hire ex-military soldiers for reasons such as, they may have some kind of subconscious tribulations. Some of these metal contentions are: schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress, and shell shock.
On top of these several reasons they also have come back with physical impediments such as unaccounted limbs and/or severe traumatization mentally or physically. That would render them incapable to perform in the necessary situations for a job or employment in certain fields that they may wish to enter. There are bountiful of contributing factors as to why these veterans end up the way they do. One of those reasons are when they get discharged from the army, they don’t have a very high payment. Another factor would be because, their friends, and family don’t help when the soldier gets discharged from the military.
When we go into a war and predict the costs, we never include the costs after the war, such as the cost of taking care of damaged vets, sometimes for the rest of their lives. Republican presidents even try to cut veteran benefits so they’ll have more money to fight more wars. On top of this we have certainly improved our emergency medical performances on the Armageddon’s, but we will still have a lot more sourdoughs that will live the rest of their lives with huge disabilities. Also a horrendous amount of old-timers will have post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
In an old study 89% of the homeless population got to where they are because of a mental illness or drug abuse. The first one is, a person living in a house and wasn’t sleeping there that night when the person polling was there, the person was considered homeless. So a person on a business trip or on vacation was listed as homeless. The second wrong statistic is that those claiming to be Vietnam vets were 6 times higher than the number of people actually served in Vietnam.
Drug abuse, fraud, mental illness and that entire military surplus makes it look like homeless people were veterans. Since then they have improved their poll counting tremendously. So the homeless old pros and new ones too are homeless and need people’s cooperation, since the United State Department of Veterans Affairs is not able to support all veterans who are disabled, and/or homeless.
