What is Academic Excellence?
• Have proper instruction in including humanities, liberal arts, sciences, with meaningful exposure to diverse subjects, such as languages, music and other academic subjects.
• For the students, it will be well grounded in the fundamentals to have sufficient grounding in all of the various mediums to know how to proceed with their future. Besides that, the basics are a critical foundation

• To be familiar with, and willing to experiment which mean to try different approaches as an individual
• Have a grounding in basic ethics – the rapid change of technology will necessitate this p

According to Southwest Tech (2011), identifies and celebrates the academic achievement or academic excellence of students through the following academic honors advantages.
Dean’s List The
Dean’s List is compiled and made public at the end of each academic semester. The Deans’ List is made up of students registered in associate degree and diploma programs who have completed 12 or more credits during the semester and earned a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher for the semester which is non-cumulative. Besides that, part-time students enrolled in associate degree and diploma programs are eligible for the Deans’ List once a minimum of 12 credits has been completed and six or more credits are completed during the semester with a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the semester. However, in Malaysia, the measurement is different because Deans’ List will entitle when the students completed with a GPA of 3.50 or higher for the semester.
Phi Theta Kappa
Besides GPA, Southwest Tech also identifies and c academic excellence of students through Phi Theta Kappa. Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society that duration for two-years institutions which recognizes and encourages scholarship among two-year college students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa provides opportunities for developing leadership and service skills, exchanging ideas and ideals, developing life-long friendships between scholars, and stimulating interest in continuing academic excellence. Students who achieve an overall 3.5 cumulative GPA having completed 12 or more credits in an associate degree program and are invited by the College President are eligible for the annual induction in the Beta Rho Beta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. A Phi Theta Kappa member whose GPA falls between 3.0 and 3.5 is placed on club probation. Processes identified in Phi Theta Kappa by laws are implemented. A member whose GPA falls below 3.0 will be dismissed from the honor society.
Graduation with High Honours
A graduate who completes all the required courses in his or her associate degree or diploma program and achieves a program cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above will graduate with high honors. Students who have attained this program GPA will be recognized as honors students and will receive gold cords to be worn during the commencement program
According to Doyle (2000) academics are a different group of individuals, bound together by a common suspicion about the motives of the college administration and a missionary eagerness to share the wonders of their disciplines with all who venture their way. Moreover, a common objective is certainly in the early stages of a career, is to be the best, and to be associated with a department, a college, a university that shares this vision. Indeed, it would be a strange individual who aspires to be the second rate, to devote a life and career to being an ordinary part of a group of also-rans.
Yet excellence, though easy to define, is a difficult state to achieve and it is the most unstable state of a dynamic equilibrium. The essays that follow are personal reflections on the pursuit of excellence, written by individuals from highly diversified backgrounds who have labored in different settings and have followed distinctive paths toward a common objective. For example, If you take the time to examine institutions that have achieved a significant measure of distinction, a common thread emerges. Almost totally, positive changes occurred as a result of the conviction and determination of a single individual. The pursuit of excellence requires a champion who will demonstrate through personal example and commitment how important goals can be articulated, how the necessary resources can be assembled, and how true scholarship enhances the educational experiences of students and faculty alike. He also hopes that the sharing of these experiences may be useful to those of you with similar goals.
